There’s something about a basket of fried fish that reminds me of home. It’s such a New England thing, but it’s definitely a comfort food for me. I love that the flaky fish can be dipped and eaten with hands, and the salty batter with fries sure tastes great. It’s really so delicious, but definitely heavy and hard to eat regularly. I wanted to make a slightly healthier, more accessible version using an air fryer to recreate this nostalgic meal for myself and for you!

When I was brainstorming for this recipe I thought, “What could I create that feels slightly different and more exciting, and could be in many ways easier than classic fish and chips?”

  • Breading Pan Set By Kuchenprofi Shop Now

I landed on sesame fried fish fritters with fingerlings and from there decided that, while I love tartar sauce, something fun like a Thai Aioli would accompany the sesame flavors really nicely. Plus, it gives everything a nice spicy kick.

After my first test run, my husband gobbled them up and the fritters were the perfect size for my one year old’s little grasp. My husband commented that he loved the Aioli and started dreaming up all the different dishes we could use it with. The sesame flavor comes on nicely with each bite, and gives each flaky bite a nice little chew.

The biggest takeaway from my first recipe test was to follow your own settings and NOT the automatic fish settings. Halibut is such a beautifully flaky fish, but overcooking it, while still actually delicious, dries this white fish out and makes it too chewy.

A nice way to test is to pull one fritter out, and carefully (it’ll be super hot!), press down on the center with your thumb. The fritter should give way on all side relatively easily. The center should be fully white, and not the white-grey-ish opaque that it looks like when raw, but still moist and soft. Not extra bouncy!

You are more than welcome to play around with any kind of white, flaky fish, all should be wonderful in this dish! I bet a swordfish would even be delicious!! Enjoy this one, friends.

Ingredients

  • 10 fingerling potatoes, sliced the long way in half, or quartered depending on thickness
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • heavy sprinkle of Kosher salt
  • 0.5 lb Halibut, cut into 15 pieces
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 0.5 cups flour
  • 3 oz sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp flaked salt
  • lb freshly chopped cilantro, for garnish
  • 0.5 cups mayo
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger (1″ piece)
  • 0.5 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp Sriracha
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 5 Thai chilis, plus 1 for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced potatoes, oil, and Kosher salt. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to the air fryer’s rotisserie basket. Make sure to let any loose oil drip off before placing the potatoes into the basket. Use your machine’s fry setting, or cook in the Air Fryer at 430 degrees for 20 minutes.
  • While the potatoes cook, pat the halibut dry and prepare three dredging plates with flour, egg wash, and sesame seeds mixed with flaked salt. Create an assembly line of halibut, dredging plates in the order above, followed lastly by the Air Fryer’s basket tray. Using one hand for dry and one hand for wet, coat each piece of halibut in the flour. Shake off excess flour, still using your dry hand, and move each piece over to the egg mix. Flip each piece, careful not to get your dry hand wet with egg. Now using your wet hand, make sure each side of the fish is coated and let any excess egg drip off before moving each piece into the sesame and salt mixture. Use your dry hand to sprinkle sesame seeds over the top of the egg-washed fish. Use your wet hand to flip the fish and make sure each side is coated with sesame seeds. Shake off excess seeds, and move each piece onto the basket tray. Repeat until all 15 pieces have been coated.
  • Once the potatoes are done, place the prepared fish in the Air Fryer set for 350 degrees and 10 minutes. Empty the cooked potatoes onto parchment and sprinkle with a bit more salt. Set aside while you prepare the aioli.
  • While the fish is cooking, prepare the aioli by mixing all of the listed Thai Chili Aioli ingredients in a medium size bowl. Whisk to combine, taste and add more garlic or ginger if needed. Place in a small bowl next to the fingerlings and garnish with one more sliced chili.
  • Once the fish is cooked, immediately move to the serving plate and garnish with a cilantro. Dip and enjoy!

There are so many wonderful things you can do with an air fryer. Remember last year we featured these amazing Chicken and Waffles made with an air fryer? Or what about Air Fryer Pumpkin Spice Churros?!

I think just about any vegetable you put into the air fryer will work! It just depends on if you like your veggies a bit firmer (on the raw side) or tender (easier to eat). After a few tries you will get the hang of making vegetables in the air fryer.

Today I’m chatting about vegetables in the air fryer and some simple best practices so you can get your vegetables just the way you want!

If you’re in the market for a new air fryer, I’m trying out this beauty from Cosori. It has a gorgeous white finish that will fit in well with a white kitchen like the one I have, and it has some pretty amazing features that I think you’ll love!

  • Premium 5.8-Quart Air Fryer By Cosori Shop Now

It has 11 different presets to make the art of air frying that much easier. You can do anything from steak to eggs to cobbler in this beauty! It also has a shake reminder that I thought was so clever. Basically, letting you know when to shake the contents for an even fry! Genius.

This air fryer also has a detachable basket that is dishwasher safe and nonstick! All winners in my kitchen.

Check out these easy Dos and Don’ts for air frying your vegetables:

  • DO wash your veggies and soak starches if needed, for better crisp.
  • DON’T cook your veggies at a high temperature. 350-375 is a great starting point for most veggies. If you are cooking frozen vegetables give them a little thawing time before they enter the air fryer and pat dry. If you are air frying potatoes or root veggies those can go up to 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
  • DO chop or slice vegetables to the appropriate size. I like mine to be in cubes and slices. If you are baking a potato in the air fryer, no need to cut, just a small slit will do.
  • DON’T overcrowd the air fryer with the veggies. You need room for the air to circulate around the veggies and “fry” it.
  • DO check on the veggies and flip them every few minutes are so. Don’t go too far because they might get too crispy.
  • DO give your veggies a little drizzle of oil. This gives them a bit of a crisp!

It’s that time of year again! Pumpkin spice season is currently scented through our homes with candles and our coffee shops with PSL’s. It has been a long, wonderful summer but I think I’m finally ready to start embracing chilly temperatures and begin the Holiday season.

I love a pumpkin spice latte (and the new pumpkin cold brew!) just as much as the next girl but each year I try and dive into something a bit different. Classic pumpkin recipes that return year after year are pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls and pumpkin loaf. We’re doing off pumpkin season with a twist: pumpkin spice churros! Are you as excited as I am?!

The churro is my go-to “fun treat” when I’m at Disneyland or any theme park. There is something so warm and exciting about getting a foot-long treat covered in cinnamon and sugar. Homemade churros are surprisingly easy to make! I even switched up the typical deep-fry method with my Emeril Lagasse Air Fryer. I love using an air fryer method for this because having to figure out how to dispose of an entire Dutch oven of used oil is pretty much the bane of my existence.

How to make churros in an air fryer

The whole process is so simple!

Churros are made with a French pastry batter called “pâte à choux” which is basically an easy batter that doesn’t use a leavening agent like yeast in order to rise. It’s highly moist which creates steam to allow the pastry to puff.

This type of batter works great fried or dry baked in an air fryer or oven. Simply pipe the pastry right onto the air frying basket. I sprayed mine with non-stick spray beforehand to prevent sticking! Set the air fryer to “fry” which will cook the churros for 20-25 minutes for a perfect golden brown.

When you’re all done, brush your churros extremely lightly with butter and dunk into a sugar mixture. You can also mix up this super easy Chocolate Dipping Sauce.

Tips for Making Great Churros

  1. Be sure to get yourself a great piping bag and piping tip set. I like using a large star tip or round tip to pipe the churros right onto the air fryer basket.
  2. If you find your batter is feeling flimsy between batches, just pop the pastry bag into the refrigerator to firm it up.
  3. Air frying doesn’t leave as much moisture as regular frying, so I brush them with a very thin layer of butter before dipping them into the sugar mixture.
  4. If pumpkin spice isn’t your jam, feel free to add more cinnamon for that classic churro taste.

Chicken and waffles are a staple in our family and in our culture! The pairing of warm, sweet waffles with crispy, savory fried chicken is one of the world’s BEST combinations. Giving peanut butter and jelly, toast and jam, and even milk and cookies a run for their money. And the best part about this chicken? It’s AIR FRIED.

If you’ve never had chicken and waffles then I suggest you head out to your nearest Roscoe’s or Lolo’s next time you’re on the West Coast and get yourself some. Once you’ve tasted the real deal you’ll be able to bring that craving home and make it in your kitchen!

I’m a big fan of grease-dripping fried chicken. When it’s done right, your hands will show it! But there’s a time and a place for EVERYTHING right? So if you want to indulge a bit without going overboard then I suggest you try using an air fryer to cut some calories while making this delicious comfort food!

Never used an air fryer before? Well, you’re in for a treat! It’s the next big thing in the kitchen appliance world and it’s making home chefs like me really happy! Why? Well because you can make all those delicious fried foods WITHOUT all the fat. Actually, almost 90% less fat thanks to some super fancy turbostar technology. Yep, all your favorites like french fries, fried chicken, roast, whole chickens, buffalo wings, tortilla chips, brownies. Should I go on?

I’m very thankful to report that the Philips Airfryer XXL is SO easy to use. There is nothing worse than getting a new appliance and just staring at it for 20 minutes trying to figure it out! With just a few clicks and moves on the dial, you’ll be on your way! I tried out the XXL for this particular meal because I knew I would be making large batches and it worked perfectly!

Once I got my chicken prepared, washed and dipped, I turned the air fryer on and set it to 350º per the directions in the manual for chicken.

For the best results here are a few tips!

  • While you’re placing the chicken on the rack, make sure you leave plenty of room for the air to circulate. This helps get that fried chicken coating!
  • Don’t coat the chicken to many times. My best batch was when I dipped the chicken into the egg mixture, then into the flour! Just once! Just make sure it has a nice thick coating!
  • Let the chicken rest! This was a tip I picked up on Divas Can Cook! Just like when you deep fry chicken, you want the flour to really soak into the egg mixture!
  • Before putting the chicken into the air fryer, spray it with vegetable oil! This will help it crisp up just right.
  • Once the chicken is crispy on one side, flip it over and continue on the other!

While the chicken was cooking, I went ahead and got the waffles going. For chicken and waffles I like my waffles to be a bit thinner. So this All-Clad Waffle Maker is a perfect fit. It makes about 8-inch waffles that are thin enough to wrap around your chicken bites perfectly.

This waffle recipe calls for not only vanilla but also a touch of cinnamon that really sets the flavors apart! Each bite will bring that perfect combination of sweet and savory. SO GOOD!

Preheat the waffle maker for about 10 minutes or until the light is green. Spray with some oil to prevent any sticking.

Once the chicken is done, you will hear a beep from the air fryer! Remove the chicken and serve everything up warm with some syrup or even honey!

When I think Coronas and fish tacos, I think warm weather.

This recipe for Air Fryer Beer Battered Fish Tacos with Mango Salsa bring a little taste of summer to the kitchen, any time of year!

Fish tacos can definitely be made a few different ways. You can marinade the fish before cooking, you can give it a rub beforehand, or you can bread it up and cook it. You can also grill, sauté or fry the fish as well, depending on what kind of fish taco flavor you are looking for. But if you are anything like me and love rich flavor but can do without all the fat, then the air-fryer may just be for you.

Air fryers are really easy to use, you just have to remember that to get a golden-brown color to your food, you need to spray the rack and the top of the food with some non-stick spray. It works like a champ and is so dang tasty.

Crispy, crunchy chicken tenders are a surefire crowd-pleaser for weeknight dinners and game day gatherings. Kids love them of course, but this grown up, air-fryer fried chicken recipe offers a couple of spicy surprises especially for adults.

The chicken strips are dusted with a touch of cayenne pepper and served with a sweet and spicy Sriracha honey mustard dipping sauce for a fiery zing. Even better, this chicken finger recipe can be prepared in an air fryer giving them a satisfying crunch with virtually no oil.

This delicious recipe comes together quickly by starting with store-bought chicken tenders. First, they are dusted in a mix of cornstarch, salt and cayenne pepper. Dust the mixture onto the chicken with a fine mesh sieve for even distribution.

Next, dip each tender in store-bought mayonnaise. Yep, you read that right. The mayo seals in moistness and provides a great coating for the breading to stick to. Dredge each tender in panko breadcrumbs and spray each one with a light, even coating of misted olive oil or cooking spray.

Now for the cooking. Although this chicken finger recipe can be prepared in an oven, an air fryer is the perfect device for achieving amazing crunch and golden coloring. If you haven’t worked with an air fryer before, its very simple to use. This model from Kalorik has a large basket and rack that can be filled with two layers of tenders. Just plug in the air fryer, arrange the chicken tenders in the basket, set the time and temperature.

Amazingly, that little spritz of oil added after dredging in panko is all that’s needed for crispy, golden results in the air fryer. We flipped our tenders halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning, but the tenders were completely cooked to a golden brown with a juicy crunch in just 16 minutes.

While the tenders are cooking, prepare the dipping sauce, which is a perfect blend of spicy, sweet, creamy and tangy thanks to the mustard, honey and Sriracha.

Prepare a double (or triple batch), these tenders are sure to spice up your night! For an awesome weeknight meal the whole family will love, incorporate these delicious tenders into my Citrus Chicken Salad with Spicy Honey Mustard Dressing and Pretzel Bread Croutons.
